Two charged after shots fired from car in Cedar Park

Nicholas Lilley and Ryan Gilbertson

Cedar Park police arrested a driver and his passenger after officers witnessed shots being fired from a car early Monday morning.

Police were in the 1700 block of East Park at 4:14 a.m. when they saw the gunshots coming from inside a car. Police were able to detain the driver, 19-year-old Ryan Gilbertson, after conducting a traffic stop.

Police also detained 22-year-old Nicholas Lilley, hours later, after he fled from the vehicle on foot during the stop.

Early on in the investigation, police said signs pointed to Lilley possibly in the area of Bagdad and Kettering near Leander High School, and that’s when Leander Police Department pitched in to help with the investigation.

Leander police found Leander High School “unsecured,” though authorities later said the “unsecured” school and the search for Lilley were not related.

Gilbertson was charged with having a prohibited weapon and unlawful carry of a weapon. Lilley was charged with criminal trespass and evading police. The two were being held at the Williamson County Jail. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
