Ukrainian protesters take to capitol

Rally in support of Ukraine protesters

Austinites in support of Ukrainian protesters rallied at the Capitol on Sunday.

They said the people in Ukraine do not like Russian government policies.

“They’re a democracy,” said Max Yemets, a Ukraine citizen living in Austin. “The forces of democracy and their freedom of expression is being suppressed to a degree never seen before. On paper right now, technically my country is a military police state.”

The protestors say they’re calling on Texas senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz to push for sanctions and other penalties against Ukraine’s government. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
