GARDEN RIDGE, Texas (KXAN) — The search continues for a missing Colorado woman who disappeared after going for a walk in Garden Ridge, Texas on January 17.
According to her husband Josh, 33-year-old Leanne Bearden left his parent’s home on Sumac Lane in Garden Ridge about 1:30 p.m. She said she was going for a walk, and would be home in about an hour.
Authorities from more than 15 state agencies searched for Bearden on Saturday, using canines, horses, ATVs, and aerial support to cover more that 23 square miles. KXAN was included in the search, exclusively invited by TEXSAR to document the search.
Still, Garden Ridge Police said the search resulted in no signs of Bearden.
Josh Bearden reported his wife missing to Garden Ridge police several hours after she disappeared. The search began immediately. Police, Comal County sheriff’s deputies, and the FBI were now involved in the search.
“Her husband, Josh, has been cooperative with all investigations and is not a person of interest,” Garden Ridge Police Chief Donna O’Conner said in a statement. “Our heart goes out to the Hecht and Bearden families as they search for their loved one.”
A man trimming trees across the street reportedly saw Bearden leave the home January 17. Garden Ridge police say they interviewed that man and verified the time she left the home by herself, and that everything appeared fine.
“We just don’t know,” said Leanne’s father-in-law. “We will stick with what we know until we know something differently. And what we know is she walked out of the driveway and walked up the street and that’s all we know.”
Many of the Bearden’s friends have put their own lives on hold to help search. There is a quarry nearby, and several wooded areas.
Family members say Josh and Leanne have been married for a little more than four years, and just returned from a two year trip around the world. They were headed back to their home in Colorado this week.
Leanne is a marathon runner, and has run in the Boston marathon, and many races in Austin. Garden Ridge police say no suspects have been eliminated, and they say they have no reason to suspect foul play at this time.
Authorities urge anyone with information on Bearden’s location to call Comal County Crime Stoppers at 800-640-8422.
