Reports show that bladder cancer is the 6th most common cancer in the U.S., and smokers develop this cancer two to three more times the rate of non-smokers.

New technology is helping local doctors detect the disease early. Austin Urology Institute has started using two new camera systems that allow doctors to see the bladder, and any potential tumors, very clearly.

Dr. Koushik Shaw joined Angie Beavin on KXAN News Today to discuss bladder cancer and the new tools to help detect it. See more in the video associated with this story.

Bladder cancer symptoms include blood in the urine, frequent urinary tract infections, and frequent urination or burning without infection.
