Discarded cigarette causes apartment fire

A cigarette left on a wooden balcony damaged two balconies and one apartment at a Central Austin complex.

Fire investigators said the cigarette was left on a top floor balcony at 4100 Avenue C and the fire then spread to a second floor patio.

No one was home at the time.

Investigators said the fire caused about $3,000 worth of damage to the structure and $1,000 worth of items within the units were damaged.
