KXAN Reporter, Sophia Beausoleil, joined the team in November 2012. While attending the University of Missouri, Sophia decided she didn’t want to sit on the sidelines, but instead wanted to be the eyes and ears for the community.
After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Business, Sophia’s career in television began at KOMU 8 News in Columbia, Missouri as a multimedia journalist and anchor. After two years in Columbia, Sophia made her way to WCIA in Champaign, Illinois as a reporter. A native of Katy, Texas Sophia made her way back to her home state to join the KXAN team.
While working as a reporter in Illinois, Sophia was assigned to a memorable story involving a waste company wanting to store a toxin in its chemical waste landfill. Many residents were concerned that their aquifer, which supplies water to 750,000 people, would be contaminated. Sophia spent weeks talking to residents and the company to get both sides of the story. The company is still waiting for the approval from the USEPA.
After spending six years in the Midwest, Sophia is excited to be back in warm and sunny Texas. In her spare time, Sophia enjoys exploring the music scene, discovering new restaurants, and taking in the beautiful Hill Country scenery.
