Omar Lewis comes to Austin originally from Atlanta, Georgia and is excited to continue his career in the Live Music Capital of the World.
He started his career in Waco as a bureau reporter stationed out of Bryan/College Station for the ABC affiliate, KXXV. There he was given the chance to cover breaking news, the worst drought in Texas history, and get his first taste of the Texas heat. After his time at KXXV, he was ready for something different choosing to venture out to Austin.
He joined the KXAN news team in March of 2012 as a general assignment reporter/multi-platform journalist.
Omar is a proud Georgia Bulldog graduating from the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady School of Journalism. Because of his journalistic drive, Omar started his career in college working as a reporter for WNEG, an independent news station in Athens, Georgia. He interned locally at the ABC affiliate in Atlanta and also at the network level at CBS News in New York City. His experience in New York cemented his desire to one day become a network correspondent.
Omar is very much a people person who loves meeting new friends. In his spare time you can find him searching around Austin for new restaurants and good food. He also enjoys being outdoors on Lady Bird Lake, reading, and exercising.
If you have a story idea, thoughts, or comments, don’t be a stranger and feel free to send them his way.
