KXAN News Today anchor, Brian Sanders, first joined the team in September 2006 as the Weekend Sports Anchor. He made the switch from sports to news in March 2012 and now covers everything from bond propositions to the new Formula One track. Brian was promoted in December 2012 to co-anchor of KXAN News Today alongside Sally Hernandez. Some of Brian’s favorite stories include the Circuit of the Americas ribbon-cutting event, where he got to ride in a Formula One car around the track, and the Military Firefighter Combat Challenge. He’s also been to the Heisman Trophy ceremony twice for former University of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and interviewed world-famous athletes like Lance Armstrong and Michael Phelps. Brian did not leave sports completely. He still shoots high school football on Friday nights and does a number of stories with the University Interscholastic League. But, he does enjoy being a fan again. He roots for the Astros, Rockets, and Texans, even though the Dallas teams are typically a close second. He’ll cheer for the Longhorns, except when they’re playing the Aggies. Brian was born and raised in Houston (Alief Hastings H.S.) and attended Texas A&M University. He earned an engineering degree, but after a year in the semiconductor field, he decided to change careers. He was in advertising sales at WFAA in Dallas when he put together the sports resume tape that landed him his first on-air job in San Angelo (KSAN). Brian enjoys spending time with his wife, their two dogs, family, and friends. He loves to travel and in his spare time, he can be seen on Austin’s Hike and Bike Trail, the lake, or the golf course. He also represents KXAN in the community at a number of charity events. Email Brian at email@example.com or follow him on Twitter @sanders_brian and Facebook facebook.com\bsand123.
