KXAN Reporter Angie Beavin, joined the team in July 2012, coming to Texas from the Bluegrass State.
Born and raised in Lexington, Angie says she’s grateful she had the opportunity to cover news in her hometown. She’ll never forget when destructive tornadoes tore through Kentucky and devastated many parts of the state in March 2012.
Angie spent a week covering the damage and continued following up as communities began the rebuilding process.
Angie attended the University of Kentucky, where she graduated magna cum laude from the Honors College with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. During her college years, she experienced “live” TV for the first time when she reported on the sidelines of a UK football game for ESPNU. That was an experience she’ll never forget,
Before working at WKYT, Angie worked about a year at WYMT in Hazard, Ky., in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. While at WYMT — where Angie did everything from shooting and editing video for stories, to anchoring and producing newscasts — she knew she’d found a job she loved.
Angie worked at WKYT, the CBS affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky, for a couple of years.
Angie’s mom and dad live in Lexington. She has an older brother, and he and his wife live in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Like many people, Angie’s discovered she loves Austin, especially the warm weather. She plays soccer and tennis, likes to spend time outside, and is always finding great local restaurants.
Angie also does yoga, and her other “dream job” outside of working in the news business is to be a yoga instructor one day. She’s thrilled to call the Lone Star State home, and if you have any story ideas for Angie, let her know.
